-Yesterday I collected homework on the topic of wealth and happiness.  The answers are posted below; compare yours to mine then scroll down for today's topic

Wealth & Happiness - Answers
1.  Answers will vary but could include Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and western Europe nations.

2.  Answers will vary but could include India, Mongolia, Madagascar, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Yemen.

3.  The countries would be the same as question 1.

4.  The countries would be the same as question 2.

5.  These countries have no report on level of life satisfaction:   Somalia, North Korea, Oman, New Guinea.  It may be because there is too much war (Somalia), the government is a dictatorship or monarchy and doesn’t want to share that information (North Korea, Oman).

6.  I think these two graphs reveal that wealthy countries have people who have high levels of life satisfaction.

7.  Answers will vary but may include the ideas of life expectancy, climate, education levels, medical care, and strong human rights.  Reasons will vary.

-we have a good idea of how wealth affects power and happiness so we now want to demonstrate what we’ve learned
-we’re working on a worksheet that has you thinking about the difference between power and authority.
-to help understand the difference think about a football game.  The players tower over the referees. The players are bigger, stronger and more powerful than the older, smaller and, often, out-of-shape referees. In a game, the players can use their power to knock you down, but the referees can use their authority to put you out of the game.  So, what is power?  What is authority?
-here’s another example:   A police officer has the power to arrest a person, but he or she       does not have the authority to arrest you for chewing gum in a public place.  So, what is power?  What is authority?
-review the worksheet—notice I have put a point value in every box.  You must write in complete sentences.  I suggest you print it, the fill in the boxes as you would in the classroom.  If you can’t print it, simply copy a version onto loose-leaf and then continue to complete the worksheet.

-complete the worksheet--I'll be collecting homework tomorrow
