-Yesterday I collected homework for The Crusades; answers will be posted later this week.
-Today we're starting a new topic and that is the Vikings
-We know that with the fall of Rome, law and order dissolved.  We've learned how Europe moved through the Dark Ages and into the Middle Ages.
-Last class we learned that as Feudalism, Manorialism, Islam, and the power of the Catholic church grew, the Crusades were happening.  Understand then that they occurred over 200 years (1095AD-1300AD).
-Going further back in time, towards the end of the Dark Ages, Charlemagne was bringing law and order and back to Europe.  It was during this time though, that a force was disrupting this process; this force was the Vikings.
-If you have watched The Vikings on the History channel or the streaming services, you know how violent they were.  Today we learn more about them,
-read pages 240 and 241 then do the following questions; I'll be collecting homework tomorrow.
The Vikings
1.  Where did the Vikings come from/What modern-day countries are the homeland of the Vikings?  Why were they leaving their homes?  /2
2.  The Vikings were skilled in three crafts/skills.  What are they?  /3
3.  What is the connection between the Vikings and Canada?  Be specific.  /2
4.  What is a berserker?  What is the modern-day definition of berserk?  Create an original sentence where berserk is used correctly.  /3
5.  Identify one reason why the Vikings were so successful on their raids of other lands.  Explain your thoughts.  /2
6.  Why do you think the Vikings were no longer a threat by the 13th century?  /2
