poet’s brother tells her to pray because they were passing some big white boys
on the bridge.

simile is a paradox because lilies usually represent peace/resurrection/a
living thing whereas a bomber represents death/suffering/a machine. So, the poet and her brother are flinging symbols
of peace to represent death.

having a curfew, losing their jobs, etc.
