-We've finished the book and I hope you enjoyed it. For the most part, it sounds like people liked the open-ending because while it is abrupt, all David's wishes come true. His mother knows him and calls him "my son", he has arrived in a place that is safe, and completed his journey. I heard from several people that the death of King was very sad but when you love someone, you sacrifice whatever it takes to take care of that person. Your parents would do it for you, Jesus did it for us, it's what you do for love.
-I'm collecting the Character Relationships Web and Character Traits Chart from the following people; it's due today: 8M-Iris, Roman, Dwayne, Aiden and 8B-Israel, Munachi, Nevaeh.

-These last few classes we've been learning about society and culture. We have defined culture as a way of life or the way we express ourselves.
-Today you will demonstrate your understanding of culture.
-For some reason, earlier I wasn't able to upload the worksheets so you received them by email; now you see them here (they are the same) .
-Review the two worksheets and you'll notice they are similar-not the same-read the sub-titles.
-One organizer is The Culture in Me: Part 1: The Teenager in Me and the other organizer is The Culture in Me: Part 2: My Parents in Me.
-The sections are the same on the two worksheets: language, for the ears, actions/doing, etc.
-Begin with Part 1: The Teenager in Me--
---what is the "language" of teenagers? is there vocabulary you use that parents don't? think about texting and the words you use with friends
---for the ears, what do teenagers listen to that parents and other adults don't? think about songs, artists, celebrities that you and your friends pay attention to
---for actions/doing, what do you and your friends like to do in your free time that adults don't do in their free time? how is your recreational time different from younger children and grown-ups?
--for prized possessions, what "things" are valuable to you? if your house were on fire, what would you grab to keep safe?
---for read and see, what do teenagers like to read and watch? think about books, magazines, videos, movies that you and your friends enjoy that parents or small children would not
---for food and eats, what do you and other teenagers enjoy eating and drinking that adults don't?
---for beliefs, what do you as a teenager, believe in and value? what's important for people your age?
---for places, where do teenagers like to go? where do you like to spend your free time that is probably different from little kids?
--be sure to write one or two ideas per box on the worksheet--once you've done that, you'll have a visual representation of teenager culture
-now do the same activity with Part 2: My Parents in Me
-for this worksheet, complete each box based on who you are because of your parents' influence
---for the language box, what language or words do you use because of what your parents taught you?
---for the ears, what songs or kinds of music do you enjoy, because it was in the household you grew up in? think about the music your parents listen to on the radio--do you know the songs and words? that's because they are part of you because of your parents' influence
---for actions/doing, what do you do with your family time? when you're all sitting around or planning a holiday, what will it be like?
---continue to complete the boxes based on how your parents affect your time and thoughts and beliefs
--be sure to write one or two ideas per box on the worksheet--once you've done that, you'll have a visual representation of your family's culture
